In tests 3 and 4 the cable spacing was changed to 3 feet on center to determine the platform's ultimate capacity. Additional transverse cables were installed creating an effective span of 10 feet between longitudinal cable supports. Loads were applied to the system using sand bags and a hydraulic jacking system.
In test 3, a total of 96,612 pounds was uniformly loaded on the platform. This equates to 301.9 pounds per square foot. The cable deflection in test 3 was 30 3/4 inches.
In test 4, a total of 133,612 pounds was uniformly applied to the platform. This yielded an amazing capacity of 417.5 lbs/sq foot.
