After recording the tremendous load carried by the standard configuration in test 1, a drop test was conducted of the system in February of 1996 using the same cable configuration as in test 1. 1,658 pounds of bagged sand was tied together and raised 10 feet 6 inches above the platform before being released. Total released energy was calculated to be 17,500 foot pounds. A visual inspection of the system revealed no damage or overstress to any of its components.
